Your March Recompete Needed Its RFP Number Last Fall
On 441 of the 632 DoD contracts on our expiring board that carry a solicitation number, the award landed in a later fiscal year than the number it was competed under, a median of 328 days after that year closed. Here is what that arithmetic does to $4.57 billion of services work that stops in the first half of 2027.
The Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency has been running market research on its personnel vetting fieldwork all year. The industry day notice picked up another attachment on September 3 and was last touched on September 10, and it still describes the draft RFP as something that has not been released.
The two task orders doing that fieldwork today end on March 31, 2027.
That is 188 days from tonight, and $1.55 billion of investigative work on orders held by Peraton and CACI that stop on the same date.
So we went looking for how long a DoD buy of that shape actually takes, and the answer turns out to be printed on the contract.
We pulled the award record behind every row of our expiring board this evening: 1,224 contracts, $450.83B obligated, end dates running from March 2027 to September 2028. 632 of them carry a solicitation number in FPDS.
On 441 of those, 69.8%, the award was signed in a later fiscal year than the one printed in the number that produced it, a median of 328 days after that fiscal year closed (chart below).
The other 592 rows carry no solicitation number at all, which is its own answer about how visible their last competition was.
