The Marine Corps Wants a Contract That Gets Smaller
MARCORSYSCOM is running market research on the follow-on to a $129.6 million Leidos task order, and the ask across 51 questions is plain: bring your own automation, at your own cost, and bill fewer hours for it every year. Responses close October 19.
Marine Corps Systems Command posted a market-research notice on September 11 with 51 questions in it. Twenty of them are about how to pay a contractor less each year.
The notice is M67854-26-I-4208, "Marine Corps Cyberspace Environment (MCCE) Operational Support Services (OSS) and Enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration," sponsored by the Portfolio Acquisition Executive Mission Systems shop at Quantico. NAICS 541513, no set-aside, responses due October 19 at 1:00 p.m. Amendment 02 landed Tuesday evening and moved that date for the second time, from October 5, after an original close of September 25. That is 24 days added to a response window on a notice that is still, formally, only market research.
What it is market research for is the part worth your afternoon. Section 2.0 says the requirement "represents the planned follow-on and evolution of the Marine Corps-specific operational and labor support elements currently performed under a task order issued against the Navy Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract."
That task order has a number. M6785426F4201, held by Leidos, first action signed January 30, running May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, with $129,609,879.90 obligated against a base-and-all-options value of $214,529,004.48. Its parent is N0003920D0054, the SMIT IDIQ, also Leidos, which takes orders until August 4, 2028.
